According to Dern, legendary director Tarantino didn't shy away from giving Brad Pitt a stern talking-to after the Fight Club star unexpectedly cut the camera during a scene.

At the Cannes Film Festival, where Dern was promoting the documentary Dernsie by director Mike Mendez, he recounted the moment with vivid detail. Playing the elderly ranch owner George Spahn, Dern found himself in a scene where Pitt's character wakes him. "I’m not really sure what’s going on," Dern recalled stating in the improvised scene.

“I’m looking at him. [Pitt] cut the camera. He cut the camera. The look on Quentin’s face — I mean, he was insanely grave — and he said, ‘Brad, what did you just do?’” Dern shared.

Tarantino's Firm Stance

Quentin Tarantino, known for his meticulous filmmaking, was reportedly not pleased. "He said, ‘Never again in your life will you ever cut a camera or you’ll be dead in this business. That’s my domain. Don’t stop behavior,’" Dern recounted Tarantino's words to Pitt, highlighting the director's strict control over his set.

Despite the tension, the filming continued. However, Pitt seemed unfazed, only noting, "Well, that wasn’t in the script what he said." The incident added an unscripted layer to the dynamic on set, with Dern improvising yet another line.
