Jamie-Lynn Sigler, widely cherished for her role in 'The Sopranos,' is opening up about her life-changing decision to swap the glitz of Hollywood for the laid-back vibe of Texas. In a candid chat with Us Weekly, the actress spilled the beans on why she and her husband, Cutter Dykstra, packed up their family and headed to Austin, Texas, back in 2021.
Unlike the entertainment world’s relentless spotlight in Los Angeles, Sigler found solace in her new surroundings. "We needed a change. When I moved here, I started using a cane once in a while because I didn’t feel like I was being watched," she revealed. For Sigler, being just "Beau and Jack’s mom at the baseball field" was a welcome breath of fresh air.
In 2016, a pivotal moment in Sigler's life came when she bravely announced her battle with multiple sclerosis, a secret she had kept hidden since she was 20. The diagnosis emerged right before she started filming the fourth season of 'The Sopranos.' Reflecting on her past secrecy, Sigler shared, "I was always acting. I had no idea what authenticity felt like." The façade took a toll on her health, leading to flare-ups of the disease.
This revelation later inspired her to create the podcast "MeSsy" with fellow actress Christina Applegate, who also battles MS. After a nudge from Lance Bass, the duo connected and decided to share their experiences. "We have each other and that's helped us so much," Applegate noted about their empowering friendship.
With a renewed sense of self and purpose, Sigler is preparing to release her memoir, "And So It Is….: A Memoir of Acceptance and Hope," due in May 2026. The book is expected to delve into her journey from child actress to motherhood, and her ongoing fight with MS.
Initially hesitant about writing, Sigler credits Applegate’s openness and resilience as catalysts for finally putting pen to paper. "I never wanted to write a book," she admitted, but now feels ready to share her truth with the world.
Stay tuned, as Jamie-Lynn Sigler's story continues to unfold with all the grace and strength she embodies, right from the heart of Texas.
