Congratulations are in order for the hilarious and talented Molly Shannon! The award-winning actress and comedian was celebrated in style as she received her very own star on the iconic Hollywood Walk of Fame this past Monday. Adding a touch of glamour to the Los Angeles boulevard, Shannon took the moment to reflect on her beginnings and the unwavering support from her late father, James Shannon.
Shannon's acceptance speech was nothing short of heartfelt. During her moving tribute, she shared a cherished memory of her father, saying, "I remember my dad told me, 'You can always come home anytime. I'll send you the money and the ticket.' I was so broke that I actually considered it … and then I had an epiphany. I thought, 'At least I'm out here doing what I love. So many people I knew from high school had given up on their dreams.' I thought, 'At least I'm in L.A. trying. And that alone is a very meaningful life, and that is actually a good, brave thing.'"
Joining Shannon in her celebration were her close friends, Connie Britton and Will Ferrell, who both delivered touching speeches. Britton, a longtime friend, and collaborator, praised Shannon not only for her comedic genius but also for her incredible motherhood, saying, "Do you know who one of the best moms on the planet is? Molly fricken Shannon. Molly, you have been such an inspiring mom … and I, as your friend, have always cherished your incredible wisdom as we raised our kids together."
Will Ferrell, who first teamed up with Shannon in 1995 during their time on Saturday Night Live, reminisced about watching her iconic character, Mary Katherine Gallagher, come alive on stage, saying, "I had to run to do a quick change and as I was changing, I'm hearing Molly perform the character … and I'm feeling the stands shake with laughter to the point where I thought, 'Oh my god, I haven't heard laughter like this so far in the three shows we've done.' And it hit me. It was such an emotional moment because I remember thinking, 'Oh, we're gonna be OK. That Molly saved us.'"
Shannon's comedic career has been nothing short of legendary. Originally from Ohio, she skyrocketed to fame as a cast member on Saturday Night Live between 1995 and 2001. The actress has since appeared in a variety of films such as "A Night at the Roxbury," "Never Been Kissed," and "Wet Hot American Summer." With performances that showcase both heart and humor, Shannon has continued to captivate audiences around the globe.
From her star-studded appearances in "Evan Almighty" to the "Hotel Transylvania" series, and hitting home runs in the TV show "Divorce" alongside Sarah Jessica Parker, Molly Shannon has proven that she's not just a comedic genius but a versatile powerhouse. Her recent accolade of an Actor Award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series for "Only Murders in the Building" in 2025 only cements her status as a beloved fixture in Hollywood's comedic landscape.
