The headline-grabbing legal showdown between Blake Lively and her It Ends With Us co-star Justin Baldoni has finally reached its curtain call. After nearly two years of courtroom drama, both parties have stepped into the spotlight to declare what each sees as a triumph. Filed in the Southern District of New York, the Notice of Settlement and Stipulation marked the official end to their contentious legal battle.
Lively's legal squad was quick to trumpet the settlement as a "resounding victory". Meanwhile, Bryan Freedman, attorney for Baldoni and his production company, Wayfarer Studios, countered with a different narrative. Freedman described the settlement as a "total victory" for his clients, pointing out that the court had already tossed out 10 of Lively's 13 claims, which included all harassment and defamation allegations.
“Let’s be clear, this is a win and total victory for the Wayfarer parties," Freedman asserted in a bold statement.
However, the drama doesn’t completely end here. Lively retains the right to pursue legal fees and damages under California Civil Code Section 47.1, should she choose.
The tug-of-war began in December 2024 when Lively accused Baldoni of sexual harassment on the set of their film. Baldoni responded with a hefty $400 million defamation lawsuit, which was struck down last summer. The settlement further clarifies that Baldoni and Wayfarer have waived any chance of appealing.
Lively’s team continues to push the narrative that her claims deserve validation, declaring the defendants’ acknowledgment as a significant step towards justice. While several claims were dismissed by U.S. District Judge Lewis Liman, allegations of retaliation have been allowed to move forward, even though Baldoni was removed from that particular segment of the case.
Both stars have expressed a shared hope that the settlement will help all involved move ahead with their lives in a more constructive and peaceful manner.
