Zootropolis 2 has taken the world by storm, officially claiming the title of Hollywood’s highest-grossing animated film of all time. With a staggering global box office haul of $1.7 billion, this blockbuster has surpassed the previous record-holder, Inside Out 2, which brought in a hefty $1.69 billion after its release in 2024.
Released in November with an impressive budget of $150 million, Zootropolis 2 – known as Zootopia 2 in some countries – has rocketed to the ninth spot on the all-time global box office list. It joins the ranks of cinematic giants like Avatar, Titanic, and Avengers: Endgame. Despite its remarkable success, it still trails behind the animated juggernaut, China’s Ne Zha 2, which grossed a spectacular $2.2 billion last year.
The beloved rabbit police officer Judy Hopps, voiced by Ginnifer Goodwin, teams up once again with the sly fox Nick Wilde, voiced by Jason Bateman, to tackle a mysterious new character, Gary De’Snake, portrayed by Ke Huy Quan. The film’s captivating storyline and characters have resonated with audiences worldwide, contributing significantly to its financial triumph.
“This milestone belongs first and foremost to the fans around the world whose enthusiasm made it possible,” Disney Entertainment co-chairman Alan Bergman stated emphatically.
Zootropolis 2 didn’t just stop at smashing records; it also marked the biggest opening weekend for an animated film during its Thanksgiving debut in the US. The film quickly sped past the $1 billion mark globally, setting a new pace for animated movies from Hollywood.
The list of the highest-grossing films of all time continues to see some familiar faces, with Avatar, Avengers: Endgame, and Titanic still leading the pack. Zootropolis 2, however, stands tall in the animated sector, proving once again that the magic of Disney continues to captivate audiences across the globe.
