"Zootopia 2" is leaping to record-breaking heights at the box office. Disney's much-anticipated sequel has smashed global earnings, raking in a staggering $1.7 billion worldwide. This achievement dethrones 2024's "Inside Out 2," which collected $1.69 billion, making "Zootopia 2" Hollywood's top animated moneymaker ever. However, the animated film crown remains with China's "Ne Zha 2," boasting an immense $2.25 billion globally.
Climbing the ranks to ninth on the all-time global release scale, "Zootopia 2" trails just behind super smashes like "Spider-Man: No Way Home" and "Avengers: Infinity War." Disney Entertainment's co-chairman, Alan Bergman, attributed this success to fans:
“This milestone belongs first and foremost to the fans around the world whose enthusiasm made it possible.”
With a debut just before Thanksgiving, the film opened to $156 million domestically and a jaw-dropping $559.5 million worldwide over five days, setting the record for the highest global animated opening ever.
The powerhouse film continues its box office reign with $390 million from domestic viewers and an incredible $1.31 billion from international audiences. Notably, "Zootopia 2" clinched the title of fastest Hollywood animation and quickest PG-rated film to hit the $1 billion mark globally. Its reception in China has been particularly impressive, earning $619 million and ranking as the second-highest-grossing Hollywood film there, just behind "Avengers: Endgame."
Directed by Jared Bush and Byron Howard, "Zootopia 2" reunites fans with beloved characters – a rabbit police officer (voiced by Ginnifer Goodwin) and a sly fox (voiced by Jason Bateman) – who team up to tackle new challenges involving a mysterious reptilian newcomer (voiced by Ke Huy Quan). While Disney hasn't confirmed a "Zootopia 3," the film's success suggests another sequel might be in the works.
