Sydney Sweeney's portrayal of Cassie in Euphoria Season 3 has stirred up a storm of controversy, especially among those in the adult content world. Cassie's journey into the OnlyFans realm to cover the cost of lavish wedding flowers isn't sitting well with the platform's creators, who've been vocal about their frustration. They argue that the series offers a skewed view of their profession, reducing it to mere entertainment.
Long-time OnlyFans creator Sydney Leathers didn't hold back in her criticism, telling Variety that Cassie's actions were "ridiculous and cartoonish." Leathers pointed out that much of what Cassie does on the show wouldn't fly on the actual platform due to strict rules enforced by credit card processors. In particular, she found the scene where Cassie dresses as a baby to be infuriating, highlighting the disconnect between real-life content creation and its portrayal on-screen.
“There’s so much that they have her doing that is not even allowed on OnlyFans, and that alone is infuriating,” Leathers fumed.
Maitland Ward, known for her transition from mainstream movies to being a top creator on OnlyFans, also voiced her concerns. She argued that Cassie's baby costume perpetuates harmful stereotypes, painting sex workers as morally bankrupt and sensationalizing their profession for laughs. "It’s beyond troubling," Ward explained, "especially when it reinforces false narratives that equate sex work with trafficking and abuse."
Another creator, Alix Lynx, commented on the marketing genius behind Cassie's decisions like collaborating with influencers. However, she stressed that success on OnlyFans isn't merely about appearances or antics. "You have to really grow and nurture a fan base," Lynx emphasized, shedding light on the dedication it takes to thrive in this digital arena.
