The Pitt Roars with Season 2 Debut

HBO Max's The Pitt kicked off its second season with a bang, claiming its best week ever on Nielsen's streaming ratings. The show amassed a staggering 939 million minutes of viewing time during the week of January 5-11, marking a 10% increase from its previous high during the season one finale week in April 2025. This impressive comeback was sparked as fans revisited the series, catching up for the highly anticipated new season, which premiered on January 8.

“The Pitt's explosive return shows that audiences can't get enough of its captivating drama,” commented a TV critic.

With its return to the charts, The Pitt solidified its position as a must-watch series, keeping viewers glued to their screens as the plot thickens.

'His & Hers': A Fresh Contender

Meanwhile, Netflix's His & Hers made an impressive debut with a whopping 1.39 billion minutes of viewing, capturing the third spot overall. The series came in just shy of Landman, which maintained its eight-week streak of billion-minute views on Paramount+ with 1.43 billion. The fresh storyline of His & Hers has clearly struck a chord with audiences, securing its place as a top contender in the streaming world.

Stranger Things Reigns Supreme

While newcomers shake up the scene, Stranger Things remains the undeniable champion. Even after its record-breaking series finale debut, the show continued to pull in massive numbers with 3.2 billion minutes of watch time, landing among the year's elite performances. Its enduring appeal keeps it firmly at the top, demonstrating its unmatched grip on viewers.

Other Notable Performances

The streaming landscape continues to thrive with new highs. Peacock's The Traitors launched its fourth season with a series-best 790 million minutes, showing significant growth from earlier projections. Elsewhere, Prime Video's Beast Games also kicked off its second season strongly, improving on its debut figures from late 2024 with 417 million minutes.

Adding to the excitement, the limited series 11.22.63 enjoyed a resurgence on Netflix, garnering 848 million minutes after joining the platform on January 7. Found, formerly on NBC, also made waves with the same viewing figures thanks to its Netflix debut, proving that older series can find new life on different platforms.

On the movie front, People We Meet on Vacation, adapted from Emily Henry's best-selling novel, led the pack with 549 million minutes, illustrating the ongoing appeal of rom-coms in the streaming era.

Nielsen's streaming ratings reflect only U.S. TV viewership, excluding online and mobile devices, but they paint a vivid picture of the fierce competition among top streaming titles as 2026 unfolds.
