Charleston Man Sentenced for Chilling Hollywood Murder

A jaw-dropping verdict rocked both Charleston and Hollywood as Deandre' Antuan Nesbitt Cochran was handed a 45-year prison sentence following his conviction for the 2023 murder case. The proceedings, held in Charleston County, concluded with Circuit Judge Deadra Jefferson delivering the heavy sentence just moments after the jury returned its verdict.

Cochran, 35, was found guilty of murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime after a three-and-a-half-day trial. The dramatic courtroom scenes were punctuated by crucial witness testimonies, which Solicitor Scarlett A. Wilson credited as the backbone of the conviction.

“Cooperating witnesses solved this case and brought home the conviction," Wilson emphasized in a statement, highlighting the pivotal role they played.

Inside the Case: How the Crime Unfolded

The chilling events began on August 8, 2023, when Charleston County deputies responded to a call at Highway 162 and Storage Road in Hollywood. There, they discovered Herman Prioleau lifeless in the front passenger seat of a Nissan sedan owned by his cousin. A bullet wound to the head marked the tragic end for Prioleau.

Testimonies during the trial revealed the harrowing moments leading up to the shooting. Cochran, positioned in the back seat, shot Prioleau while the victim's cousin drove them through Charleston County. After the lethal shot, a companion in the backseat discarded the gun through a window. Cochran then commandeered the situation, ordering the driver to halt, wiping down surfaces for fingerprints, and making a swift escape by turning off his phone.

Justice Served: The Investigation and Arrest

Detectives made a breakthrough with a single fingerprint left in the vehicle, linking them to another witness who identified Cochran as the shooter. In a dramatic turn of events, Cochran was tracked down in Florida, where he was already serving time for unrelated charges.

Following extradition, he was transported back to Charleston County, where he has remained incarcerated since his arrest. The case's resolution serves as a stark reminder of how witness cooperation and forensic evidence can intertwine to deliver justice.
