“A lot of the roles I played earlier on in my career… I had a topless scene in one of my first movies, but it wasn’t in the script and I got told a week before they were going to [take] my top off,” he revealed. “I was like, ‘S–t, I haven’t been working out, what am I going to do?’ This is my first introduction to the world.”

Navigating Insecurity in the Spotlight

Claflin candidly admitted to feeling "incredibly insecure," particularly when he first landed the role in 'Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.' Despite the glamour of Hollywood, Claflin felt out of place and questioned his worthiness of being there. This sense of inadequacy was compounded by the industry’s obsession with the 'perfect' male physique, suggesting that a six-pack was a prerequisite for success.

Reflecting on the pressures, he shared with The Telegraph how these expectations led him to develop a form of body dysmorphia. Claflin emphasized that while it wasn’t exactly an eating disorder, it was a significant struggle fueled by his experiences in Hollywood. "There is this Hollywood assumption that it's the men with the six packs who sell the movie," he remarked, acknowledging the intense pressure to conform.
