Olivia Munn has shared a jaw-dropping behind-the-scenes tale about working with a fiercely resistant male co-star. During a chat on The Drew Barrymore Show, the actress recounted an incident where an unnamed actor balked at a scene where her character swooped in to save him.
Munn, known for her role in "Your Friends & Neighbors," described filming an intense gunfight in an underground bunker. The script called for her to save her co-star from an impending attack. "If you read the script, it was that he was guarding his side, I was guarding my side," Munn said, adding, "Then we switch sides and then there's a guy that was coming for him – was gonna shoot him in the back – so I shoot him."
“Wait, wait, wait. Hold on. She can’t save me. No, no. She can’t save me.”
That was the co-star's reaction, leading to a tense showdown with the director.
Faced with almost an hour of deadlock, Munn suggested a simple tweak: "OK, how about instead of my character saving you, it's just that we switch because it's time for us to switch and so this is my guy to get," she proposed. The co-star agreed, but Munn noted with a laugh that nothing actually changed in the scene.
This isn't the first time Munn has been candid about her Hollywood struggles. She previously called out a director for giving her poor notes in "Newsroom," which he then used to badmouth her. Despite his attempts, Munn landed the role.
Reflecting on these experiences, she told The Hollywood Reporter, "It's playing the game a bit more. I should be able to speak up for myself and I should be able to draw the line, but we cannot. I can't change the world and I cannot change how women have been portrayed."
Munn's stance has empowered other actresses in the industry, encouraging them to protect their artistic vision while navigating the complex world of Hollywood.
