The legendary actor Mickey Rourke has added a surprising chapter to his storied career by turning to crowdfunding to avoid eviction from his Los Angeles residence. The 73-year-old star of The Wrestler has approved a GoFundMe page, aiming to cover a hefty $59,100 rental bill, as highlighted in a recent article by The Hollywood Reporter on January 4.
The crowdfunding page was launched by Liya Joelle-Jones, a friend and part of Rourke's management team, from Bantam, Connecticut. Joelle-Jones expressed her hopes in an interview, noting, "Mickey is going through a very difficult time right now, and it’s been incredibly touching to see how many people care about him and want to help." Us Weekly is still awaiting a comment from Rourke's representative.
Rourke's legal woes also add a layer of complexity. According to the Los Angeles Times, the actor was served with a three-day eviction notice on December 18, 2025, after an apparent rent hike to $7,000 a month on a lease originally signed for $5,200. Landlord Eric Goldie has taken legal action, filing a lawsuit on December 29, 2025, seeking compensation for damages and attorney fees after Rourke failed to settle the alleged rental bill.
The GoFundMe page paints a vivid picture of Rourke's rise and fall in Hollywood. "Mickey Rourke entered American cinema like a force of nature... At the height of his success, he stepped away from Hollywood in search of truth and authenticity," the description details. His return to the ring left him with lasting scars, both physical and emotional, and the industry moved on, leaving him to face health and financial struggles alone.
The campaign, which has drawn just under $29,000 from over 693 supporters, makes a heartfelt plea for stability and peace of mind for Rourke. It emphasizes that fame doesn’t shield against hardship and highlights his entitlement to a secure home. The page urges donations, noting, "Any donation, no matter the size, will make a real difference. Sharing this page is a huge help and deeply appreciated."
Rourke also made headlines last year following his tumultuous stint on Celebrity Big Brother UK, where a confrontation with Chris Hughes led to his exit from the show. The reality series condemned Rourke's comments, adding to the actor's list of recent public challenges.
