More than twenty years ago, Malin Akerman's life took a dramatic turn from restaurant floors to Hollywood homes. While working downtown L.A., she met a regular patron named Bob who offered her an opportunity that was too good to pass up. "He knew we needed a place and told us that he and his brother owned a family home that was sitting empty," shared Akerman. The charming Spanish-style bungalow on a peaceful Hollywood Hills street immediately caught her heart.
She recalls the excitement she felt upon seeing the house. “We fell in love right away,” she reminisces. It was a far cry from her previous one-bedroom apartment, offering a three-bedroom space with a view and a garage perfect for her boyfriend’s drum kit.
Akerman rented the property for three years before becoming the proud owner in 2008. Now, she shares it with her husband, English actor Jack Donnelly, and their son. The house witnessed many pivotal life moments, from her son's birth to personal transformations. "So many things happened here," she says, reflecting on the years of joy and change.
Over the years, Akerman spared no effort in transforming the house into a personal sanctuary. A custom kitchen, a pool courtyard, and a studio above the garage are just a few additions that shaped the property into a 3,100-square-foot haven.
“With every job I booked, I’d put away a little nest egg so I could eventually make changes,” she explains. "I always dreamed of having a pool and hot tub."
As Akerman gears up for a new chapter, her Hollywood Hills home is on the market for $2.995 million. Her favorite features include the primary suite's jade zellige-tiled bathroom and the house's distinctive entertainment spaces. "I love to host," she shares, emphasizing the joyful gatherings and disco parties that brought her home to life.
Despite the excitement for a fresh start closer to her family in Sweden, Akerman tenderly acknowledges what she’ll miss most. "There’s something incredibly special about California," she reflects. But as she embraces change, the disco ball – a symbol of countless celebrations – is heading east with her.
As Malin prepares to leave the iconic California dream for new horizons, she remains optimistic. "I’m not losing my friends—the visits will just be more intentional now," she notes. With fond memories and exciting prospects, Akerman embarks on a new journey, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and a beautiful home filled with magic.
The house is listed with Lori Harris of Brock + Lori, waiting for its next chapter under new owners who might just hang their own disco ball.
