Kelly Clarkson, the powerhouse voice behind hits like "Since U Been Gone," is sharing the heartfelt reasons behind her decision to wrap up her self-titled talk show after seven successful seasons. The singer and TV host opened up during a recent appearance on NBC's Today show, shedding light on the personal changes that influenced her choice.
In her candid interview, Clarkson reflected on the shifting dynamics of her family life, saying, "Well, I think everybody probably gets the timing, but … yeah, our family life, the dynamic changed a bit and it has changed for a minute now." She emphasized the importance of time with her children, River Rose and Remington, in the wake of the passing of her ex-husband Brandon Blackstock.
“I think it’s just — you’ve got kids, we’ve all got kids, right? — it’s one of those things when you kinda start seeing life as how precious it is, too.”
Despite stepping away from daytime TV, Clarkson’s career is far from slowing down. Fans can still catch her on the upcoming season of NBC's The Voice and at her Studio Sessions Las Vegas residency. "I’m really busy," she shared with Today host Carson Daly, addressing the misconception that she’s taking a break altogether. "I know everybody thinks oh, she’s quit. I still have other jobs."
The decision to end the show wasn’t an easy one. Clarkson highlighted the emotional toll it took on her and the show's creative team. "That’s what was really hard," she revealed. "The crew’s been incredible. It wasn’t that the show wasn’t doing well. That’s what kind of sucked; it was like, everything was going well."
Premiering in 2019, The Kelly Clarkson Show quickly became a fan favorite, snagging 24 Daytime Emmy Awards. As the curtain closes on this chapter, Clarkson is mindful of the show's legacy and the people who made it all possible. "We are a family there as well, so that was a really hard thing for me," she admitted, noting the impact on her team.
While her fans might miss the daily dose of Clarkson's charm on their screens, they can rest assured knowing she's still lighting up the stage and TV in different ways.
