Kate Hudson's Career Retrospective

Kate Hudson is basking in the glow of her second Oscar nomination, coming 25 years after her first. The 46-year-old actress, nominated for her leading role in "Song Sung Blue," reflects on her journey from her breakthrough in "Almost Famous" to her recent accolades. Last month, she received an Oscar nod for her performance in the biographical musical drama, adding to her illustrious career.

During the 28th Costume Designers Guild Awards held in Los Angeles, Hudson snagged the Spotlight Award, recognizing her enduring commitment to excellence in film. Reflecting on her career, she shared with Fox News Digital a surprising piece of advice she would give her younger self. Although she cherishes every decision, even the challenging ones, Hudson admitted, "I’d keep more clothes!"

A Night to Remember in Santa Barbara

The day after her red carpet revelation, Hudson was honored at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival with the Arlington Award. Her longtime friend, Gwyneth Paltrow, presented the award, marking another milestone in Hudson's career. "I got to experience a little bit of Santa Barbara, and it’s beautiful," Hudson enthused about her time in the coastal city.

While in Santa Barbara, Hudson reflected on her career trajectory and how it has evolved since her first Oscar nomination. "It’s like having a third child," she mused, noting how her perspective has shifted with years of experience and relationships in Hollywood.

Embracing Challenges and Change

Hudson, who wowed audiences in various romantic comedies like "How to Lose A Guy in Ten Days," now seeks roles that challenge her as an artist. Despite her success in rom-coms, she expressed a desire to transform her career, a journey "Song Sung Blue" has only just begun. In a candid conversation with The Hollywood Reporter’s Scott Feinberg, she shared, "Being widely known for rom-coms sometimes made it hard for filmmakers to see me in different types of roles."

With her music debut in 2024, Hudson has ventured into new creative territories. She recalled the encouragement and skepticism she faced, "I always thought music would be something that I would do, but then it was like, ‘OK, don’t break what’s not broken.’” Her decision to release her album "Glorious" during the pandemic was a leap she doesn't regret, feeling overwhelmed by the warm reception.

Paltrow, reminiscing about their shared history, praised Hudson’s performance in "Song Sung Blue," saying, "I burst into tears, not only because I was so proud of your skill and your brilliance, but because I felt you finally had a role that shows all of what you can do." The bond between the two stars highlighted a night of nostalgia and celebration.
