Forget the glitz and glamour of Tinseltown – Josh Duhamel, the star of blockbuster hits and soap opera fame, found his true sanctuary far from the Hollywood lights, in the rustic heart of North Dakota. In a refreshing heart-to-heart on The Skinny Confidential Him & Her Show, hosted by Lauryn and Michael Bosstick, Duhamel opens up about the high-stakes Hollywood hustle and the tranquil escape that offered him a vital reset.
"Something clicked during an intense audition," Josh recalls, describing a pivotal moment in his acting journey during a student film adaptation of 'The Picture of Dorian Gray.' "I just lost it... that was my breakthrough, the moment I knew I could do this for real." Now, reflecting on his path, he sees acting as a deeply personal and cathartic experience, allowing him to explore depths of himself that everyday life wouldn’t permit.
Despite the allure of Hollywood, Duhamel's heart eventually led him back to North Dakota. "Leaving North Dakota initially felt like a necessity," he admits. But as years went by, he realized the true value of his roots. A serendipitous meeting with his now-wife, Audra, at a casual barbecue reignited his love for the state. He fondly recounts how her connection to home and family values resonated deeply with his own desires for authenticity away from LA's superficial scene.
"There was just something wholesome about her," Josh notes, recalling how Audra’s genuine care for others struck a chord. This encounter sparked his gradual transition from a bustling city life to a more grounded lifestyle surrounded by nature and family.
Beyond acting, Duhamel has embraced another passion – building a men’s longevity brand called Gatlan. His exploration into health and longevity was initially driven by vanity but has since evolved into a mission to educate and empower. "I kept my interest in testosterone and peptides under wraps for so long," he confesses, "but it’s massively improved my life." Now, he's determined to help others discover the benefits of staying healthy and vital as they age.
Looking toward the future, Duhamel remains open to new opportunities, even as whispers of another 'Transformers' movie circulate. But for now, he's content in his North Dakota haven – a place where simplicity reigns and family matters most.
