Janice Dickinson is sending shockwaves through the fashion world with her explosive allegations against Tyra Banks. The former supermodel and early judge on America's Next Top Model (ANTM) is speaking out in the fiery new docuseries Dirty Rotten Scandals, airing on E!. Dickinson alleges that Tyra and the other producers pushed her to act more like Simon Cowell, infamous for his ruthless critiques on American Idol.
“The producers, especially Tyra, were begging me to be harsher and cruel, like Simon Cowell was on American Idol,”
As Dickinson recalls, this push for cruelty led to one of ANTM's most notorious moments – Tyra's fiery confrontation with contestant Tiffany Richardson in 2005. Dickinson claims this was part of a larger, troubling pattern during the 2000s reality TV era.
But Dickinson's revelations don't stop there. She accuses Banks of being especially harsh on Black contestants due to competitiveness and jealousy. Dickinson suggests that Tyra's treatment was fueled by her own insecurities as an older woman among younger contestants.
“She would go harder on the Black girls on the show because of competitiveness, jealousy, and her being older than these young women,” Dickinson claims.
The docuseries lifts the lid on the emotional toll this took on contestants, describing them as "depressed and drained" after their time on the show. Meanwhile, Tyra, according to Dickinson, gained financially and professionally from the show's success.
Janice Dickinson paints a picture of a reality show that thrived on emotional turbulence, leaving a trail of traumatized contestants in its wake. "America’s Next Top Model really tortured these girls for Tyra’s ego," she claims, revealing she witnessed these dynamics firsthand over four seasons.
Set your reminders because Dirty Rotten Scandals premieres March 11 on E! and promises to reveal even more behind-the-scenes drama from one of reality TV's most iconic shows.
