A Sudden Exit from the Spotlight

Ian Somerhalder, the dashing figure that once graced our screens in Lost and The Vampire Diaries, has candidly revealed why his acting days are behind him. The Louisiana-born actor's decision to step away from Hollywood came after the surprising cancelation of his Netflix show, V Wars. Despite the initial hiccup of an "unwatchable" cut, Somerhalder's passion led him to personally raise a whopping $6 million for reshoots. His efforts paid off as the show soared to the top spot in 103 territories worldwide. But even this success couldn't save V Wars from an unexpected axing.

“You give everything, and then the show was a hit,” Somerhalder reflected, “but I pulled the plug. That was it. I walked away.”

Somerhalder didn't just leave Hollywood behind; he embraced a new chapter in Southern California, focusing on sustainable farming and co-founding Brother's Bond Bourbon with fellow Vampire Diaries alum Paul Wesley.

Reflecting on Past Choices

Reflecting on his early career, Somerhalder acknowledges some regrets. While appearing on Lost, he admitted to People that he might have complained about the craft service or been late a couple of times. However, he holds no grudges as he pivots towards family life with his wife, Twilight star Nikki Reed. “Once you reach a certain level, you're like, ‘Okay, I want to focus on family and the future of farming and food and energy and the big things,’” he shared.

New Beginnings Beyond Hollywood

Somerhalder is clear that acting is now part of his past. The decision to leave the industry for a peaceful life on the farm came from a place of inner clarity and determination. He has no intentions of returning to the screen, even when faced with business hurdles and debts. As he settled into this fresh start, he echoed, “I think it’s in the rearview mirror.
