Rolling Out the Red Carpet – And the Traffic Cones

It's Oscar season again, and while that means the glitterati will be dazzling on the red carpet, it also means significant disruptions for motorists in Hollywood. As the world's biggest stars prepare to grace the Dolby Theatre for the 98th Academy Awards this Sunday, streets are shutting down and locals are bracing for impact.

Roadblocks Begin: Key Streets to Avoid

Already, Hollywood Boulevard is off-limits, closed from Orange Drive to Highland Avenue, and will remain sealed for three days after the Oscars, extending until March 18. This crucial stretch of road is just the beginning. By Friday, March 13, at the crack of midnight, Hawthorn Avenue will be closed off from Highland to Orange Drive, leaving drivers to find alternate routes until Monday morning.

The Encroaching Perimeter

Saturday, March 14, sees the security perimeter tighten even more. Orchid Avenue is cut off from Franklin Avenue to Johnny Grant Way, accessible only to residents, emergency vehicles, and hotel traffic. Meanwhile, Orange Drive and Johnny Grant Way join the list of restricted zones, while the west sidewalk of Highland Avenue is also off-limits for pedestrians.

“Hollywood's annual glamour fest is not just about the stars but also about preparing for the logistical dance of road closures and detours,” a local resident commented.

Sunday Lockdown: March 15

The day of the awards, Sunday, March 15, brings the most extensive closures yet. Highland Avenue, a major north-south route, will be locked down from Sunset to Franklin Avenue from early morning. Additionally, Hollywood Boulevard's closure will expand dramatically, stretching from La Brea to Cahuenga Boulevard.

For subway users, the Hollywood/Highland station will be shuttered late Saturday night through early Monday, forcing riders to use alternative transport options.

Plan Ahead to Avoid the Glitz Gridlock

These closures spare only local residents, businesses, and emergency services, so plan your routes and expect delays. Stay updated with the California Post App, follow us on social, and sign up for newsletters to stay ahead of the Hollywood hustle.
