Hollywood was lit up this weekend, and it wasn’t just the city lights. Sir Paul McCartney, rock royalty and Beatles legend, hosted an exclusive gig at the historic Fonda Theater. With only a select 1,200 fans snagging tickets, this intimate show became the hottest ticket in town. Alongside a lineup of Beatles and Wings classics, McCartney playfully took aim at Donald Trump, a move that garnered enthusiastic boos from the crowd.
The star power wasn’t just on stage. Among the glittering audience were Stevie Nicks, Taylor Swift, Billie Eilish, and Margot Robbie, all there to support the rock icon. Even McCartney’s former bandmate, Ringo Starr, made a special appearance. Adding to the Hollywood glitter, Steve Carrell, Laura Dern, and Dakota Johnson joined the singalong of timeless hits like “Let It Be” and “Hey Jude.” Music stars Olivia Rodrigo and John Mayer were also spotted singing along.
“I just feel like art and community and any sort of gathering around something that’s going to uplift us or bring us closer to each other in our city, that’s the antidote to troubled times,” shared Derek Heath, a graphic designer in attendance.
Fans were spellbound when McCartney performed “Blackbird,” a nod to the civil rights movement and a reminder of music’s power to inspire change. The atmosphere was electric, a perfect blend of nostalgia and hope, as McCartney's music stood as a symbol against the current political climate.
The concert wasn't just about revisiting the past. McCartney took the opportunity to announce his upcoming album, "The Boys of Dungeon Lane," hitting the shelves on May 29. He introduced his latest track, "Days We Left Behind," a poignant ballad that reflects on his post-war Liverpool days.
Paul shared the inspiration behind his new music, “This is very much a memory song for me. The album title, The Boys of Dungeon Lane, comes from a lyric in this track.” He reminisced about his youthful days in Liverpool and the streets that still hold a special place in his heart. Produced by the ever-talented Andrew Watt, this album promises to deliver a captivating journey through McCartney's storied past.
