Kat Graham's Scene Cut from 'Michael' Biopic

Michael Jackson fans eagerly awaiting the release of the biopic ‘Michael’ will miss out on seeing Kat Graham step into the shoes of the legendary Diana Ross. The actress confirmed on social media that her scenes were cut from the movie due to "certain legal considerations."

Graham, known for her breakout role on 'The Vampire Diaries,' shared the news ahead of the film's premiere, set to hit theaters on Friday. In a heartfelt post on X, she expressed disappointment that her scenes were left on the cutting room floor. “Unfortunately, these moments are no longer part of the final cut, though the team worked hard to preserve as much of the story as possible,” Graham revealed.

Legal Hurdles and Film Adjustments

The biopic, directed by Antoine Fuqua, stars Jaafar Jackson, Michael's nephew, as the pop icon, with Colman Domingo and Nia Long portraying his parents. Despite the legal complications, the film promises an intimate look at Jackson's life.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, an earlier version of the film included scenes dealing with allegations against Jackson, but was reworked due to a past settlement that restricted dramatization of a specific accuser. A follow-up film focusing on Jackson’s later years is reportedly in the works.

Jackson and Ross: A Special Bond

Michael Jackson's connection with Diana Ross is legendary. The two met during Jackson's early years with the Jackson 5, and their bond only grew stronger over time. Jackson even penned the 1992 hit "Remember the Time" with Ross in mind, showcasing their close relationship.

In his review for THR, critic David Rooney described the film as “surprisingly affecting,” although he noted that it might face criticism for its portrayal of Jackson in a saintly light. The film’s adjustments and Graham's cut scenes highlight the tightrope filmmakers often walk when bringing complex real-life stories to the big screen.
