In an emotional Instagram video posted Tuesday, Romano revealed she underwent a cancer screening due to her family's history with the disease. Her husband, Brendan Rooney, joined her in these precautionary tests.

In the video, Romano revealed, "My husband's came back completely negative," pausing before delivering the more somber news, "Mine did not come back negative. So basically what that means is that I may have stagable cancer."

Facing the Next Steps

The Even Stevens star shared her next steps in this journey, detailing her struggle to get a PET scan covered by her insurance. Her candidness about battling the healthcare system brings light to a struggle many face in similar situations.

Adding a touching tribute, Romano spoke about her connection to late Dawson's Creek actor James Van Der Beek, who recently passed away from colorectal cancer. "I live in Austin, and I was able to meet James Van Der Beek a bunch," Romano said. "His family’s amazing. He’s a pillar of our community. They always were raising money for the most amazing charities, and he’s not with us anymore. Cancer is everywhere. Which is why I got this test."

A Year of Reflection

Romano also reflected on a near-death experience just over a year ago when she was shot in the eye at her husband's birthday celebration. "With everything that happened, all I can think about is how grateful I am to be alive," she expressed, emphasizing the importance of cherishing life’s fleeting moments.
