Chris Pratt Faces Mario's Catchphrase Challenge

Chris Pratt, the 46-year-old celebrity we all love, is stepping into the shoes of Mario once again – but with a twist! In the upcoming movie, 'The Super Mario Galaxy Movie', Pratt takes on the challenge of delivering Mario’s legendary “Mamma Mia” catchphrase. But here's the catch – he's opting for a Brooklyn flavor, making the iconic line a tough nut to crack for the actor.

Speaking to ScreenRant, Chris shared his thoughts on the matter:

“When you hear that original version of the character, it's in Italian. It's like, 'Mamma Mia.' And I'm like, 'Why does it make sense for a guy who's from Brooklyn who doesn't have that accent to use that so much?'”

It turns out, Pratt finds slipping into the proper rhythm and flair of “Mamma Mia” quite the uphill battle. "It's always really hard to find how 'Mamma Mia' works," he confessed, adding that he tries to vary the line each time he delivers it.

Sequel Cast Adds Star Power

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is not just about Chris Pratt's vocal gymnastics. The film is a star-studded sequel to the 2023 hit, The Super Mario Bros. Movie, which was a global sensation, racking up over a billion in box office sales. This time around, fans will see familiar faces like Jack Black as Bowser, Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, and Keegan-Michael Key as Toad.

Joining the team are fresh voices, including Brie Larson as Rosalina and Donald Glover as Yoshi. Glover, who’s been dubbed over-enthusiastic for his role, jokingly “campaigned” to secure the part. According to Jack Black, Donald's love for the Nintendo universe was so intense that he told his agent to get in touch with Illumination's top brass, making it clear just how much he wanted to be Yoshi.

Donald Glover's Yoshi Enthusiasm

Donald Glover, a self-professed fan of the Super Mario franchise, didn't shy away from expressing his excitement. He admitted to feeling "a little timid" about voicing such an iconic character, but his dedication speaks volumes. "I always believe in the idea of under-promising, over-delivering," he shared, emphasizing his commitment to nailing the role.

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is set to be a thrilling ride for audiences worldwide with its powerhouse cast and nostalgic appeal. It promises not only to bring Mario and his friends to life but also to weave in new characters, ensuring fans have a memorable experience when the film hits theaters.
