Why Chet Hanks Chose the Trailer Park Life

Chet Hanks is ditching the Hollywood scene for something a bit more down-to-earth. The actor and musician is swapping the glitz and glamour for the laid-back vibes of a Nashville trailer park. During a revealing chat on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Chet spilled on his newfound love for RV living and why he’s decided that a home on wheels is the way to go. "I didn't want to get an apartment because I literally just got a condo in L.A. and I furnished it," he told Fallon. "I didn't want to do that again, and I didn't want to furnish it.” Chet, who's been hopping between Airbnbs and hotels, was craving his own space.

“I was, like, staying in Airbnbs and hotels and that gets really old because I just like having my own space,” he explained.

A Spark in Carmel-by-the-Sea

The thrill for trailer life sparked during a stay in a cozy Airstream in Carmel-by-the-Sea, California. "I stayed in an Airstream trailer and I really loved it," Hanks shared. Inspired by this experience, he decided to purchase a Jayco Eagle, complete with all the comforts he desires. "It has everything I need. I got my kitchen. I got, you know, a walk-in shower," he laughed, acknowledging how rare it is for trailers to have separate shower and toilet areas.

Nashville's Not-So-Ordinary Trailer Park

While many might think living in a trailer park means roughing it, Chet is here to debunk that stereotype. "I’m probably, like, the youngest person in the trailer park by like 30 or 40 years," he joked on the show. Contrary to common perceptions, his trailer park neighbors are mostly retirees, he says, painting a picture of a calm and friendly community. And while he's got a fire pit outside, most of his evenings are spent indulging in simple home comforts, like watching Netflix from bed.

Living the Music Dream

Beyond his unique living arrangements, Chet is also making waves in the country music scene. He recently appeared on Fallon to promote "Running Point" and celebrate a major milestone: performing with his band, Something Out West, at the 2026 Stagecoach Festival. "It was a big deal," he said, noting that it was only their second live show ever. This trailer park living might just be the grounding experience he needs as he continues to carve out his own path away from his famous parents' shadows.
