Carrie Underwood, the country music queen, takes us behind the scenes of her life away from the chaotic Hollywood buzz, revealing a contrasting reality on her Tennessee farm. After leaving the spotlight, Underwood has embraced a life filled with both "frustration" and "excitement," a far cry from her days as an American Idol judge and a country superstar.
“My goal is to just do as much as I can myself,” she told Us Weekly. “I love it. It’s a challenge, and it’s frustrating, and it’s exciting, and it’s rewarding, and just all the things.”
Underwood’s life on her 400-acre haven, which she shares with her family, is the "polar opposite" of her glamorous career. "I go home, and I had to have talks with my family at one point, because I was like, ‘OK, when I’m away, I’m like Cinderella at the ball.' I’m a princess, and it’s great,” she said. Yet, at home, it’s back to basics as she finds herself "covered in dirt" and "barefoot in the kitchen."
In 2019, Carrie relocated to the serene outskirts of Nashville with her husband, former NHL star Mike Fisher, and their two sons, Isaiah and Jacob. "This entertainment world that we live in is not reality," Underwood candidly shared on SiriusXM’s “Front Row.” "Reality is vacuuming and cleaning toilets and doing laundry and gardening and cooking, and that’s a world I love.”
Underwood and Fisher have turned their $15 million farm into a bustling family oasis, complete with livestock. "We have cows, we have sheep, we have donkeys. We have horses," she enthused. "I have my garden, and it’s a great way to connect with the earth. That’s my contribution to the family."
Though she still travels to Los Angeles for American Idol, Underwood's heart remains on her Tennessee farm. The transition from being on stage in front of thousands to a life of raising chickens and tending to her garden is stark, yet fulfilling. "Singing is definitely one of my happy places," she admits, "but the world that takes you to is just not real."
Despite the challenges, Underwood cherishes her down-to-earth lifestyle. The farm, a place of simplicity and hard work, stands as a testament to her choice to prioritize family and authenticity over the Hollywood hype. "It’s a challenge, and it’s frustrating, and it’s exciting, and it’s rewarding, and just all the things," she reiterated, embracing the life she’s chosen.
