Byron Allen, the media powerhouse, has been making waves with his audacious moves in the industry. Known for his strategic acquisitions, Allen recently snagged a majority stake in BuzzFeed for a cool $20 million upfront, with an additional $100 million due in five years. But his ambitions don't stop there – he's now setting his sights on Starz.
“He and I have been texting quite a bit," Allen said of Stephen Colbert. "He’s just a really good human being, he’s very talented, he’s an American treasure and I really enjoy our interactions.”
In addition to his BuzzFeed deal, Allen has expressed a keen interest in taking over Starz. He recently bought an 11% stake from Steve Mnuchin for $25 million, making him the second-largest stockholder. Despite the "poison pill" strategy adopted by Starz to discourage hostile takeovers, Allen remains undeterred, stating, "I do plan on controlling Starz."
