Brooke Shields Slams South Park Creators Over Denver Restaurant Worker Drama

Brooke Shields is continuing her criticism of South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone over a heated worker dispute at their Denver restaurant, Casa Bonita. The actress, serving as president of the Actors' Equity Association, has been pushing for better wages and safety protections for the roughly 80 performers who entertain guests there.

In March, Shields visited the Colorado spot using a fake name to deliver a letter demanding improved conditions. She described the move as slightly an ambush in comments to CNN, noting the performers put their lives at risk yet feel overlooked. "It's just so disheartening because [the performers are] putting their lives at risk, and they're not being looked after," she said. Shields added that the silence from Parker and Stone has been frustrating, calling it radio silence amid ongoing negotiations.

The union reps allege issues like hypothermia and chlorine toxicity from the diving pool, plus a need for better security when performers interact with guests. Management at Casa Bonita responded that they value team members and their well-being but won't comment on active labor talks. Parker and Stone bought the iconic spot in 2021 after it closed due to the pandemic and bankruptcy, pouring in far more than expected – around $50 million instead of the planned $7-8 million – to revive it.

The creators, who grew up loving the restaurant, have even featured it on their show. On Jimmy Kimmel Live! in May, Parker joked about the massive overspend, quipping they would have been the richest comedians if not for buying the place. USA TODAY reached out to reps for Parker and Stone but has not heard back yet.
