Amber Heard is making waves once again, emerging from her self-imposed silence to comment on the infamous Johnny Depp trial in the new documentary 'Silenced.' Premiering at the 2026 Sundance Film Festival, this film sees Amber laying bare her complex emotions and the rollercoaster of events since the trial.
Discussing her appearance, Amber clarifies her stance: "This is not about me. I have lost my ability to speak. I am not here to tell my story. I don’t want to tell my story. In fact, I don’t want to use my voice anymore. That’s the problem," she states in the documentary, shedding light on her motivations and the toll the trial has taken on her.
Amber further explains how she felt trapped by the trial process: "The outcome of that trial depended on my participation, and I depended on the outcome of that trial," she confesses, highlighting the vicious cycle she found herself in. She praises the documentary's director, Robinson, for understanding the broader implications of her ordeal, which she describes as an "amplified version of what a lot of women live through."
Facing public judgment, Amber recalls, "I remember at the close of the trial, the idea that I could say something to the press came up. Robinson asked if I was sure about that. I thought, 'If they throw things at me, it will make this point more obvious.' I didn’t understand it could get so much worse for me as a woman, using my voice," illustrating the relentless scrutiny she endured.
Concluding on a hopeful note, Amber says, "It gives me strength seeing other people take on the fight. Women brave enough to address the imbalance of power. Looking at my daughter’s face as she grows up and slowly starts to walk into this world… I believe it can be better." Since her move to Madrid, Spain, in 2022, Amber has been embracing a quieter life, focusing on her family and personal peace.
Despite stepping away from the limelight, she's been involved in occasional projects, like 'In the Fire' and the delayed 'Aquaman sequel, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom,' released in 2023. With the storm of the trial behind her, a friend notes that Amber has "moved on" and is "living her best life in Spain with her daughter."
